Coronavirus local support

Last night Staverton Parish Council Emergency Planning Team met to discuss the possible problems the coronavirus epidemic might give our parishioners.

There is medical advice aplenty coming from the government via the media, which we hope everyone will follow.

We anticipate that we can mainly help with being good neighbours and looking out for one another.

If you have to self isolate or are too ill to go out for food or medicines we want you to know we can help – BUT ONLY IF WE KNOW!

We would like to put together a team of people who are willing to help with fetching vital supplies and delivering them to any affected parishioner who needs our help.

CAN YOU HELP?

Michael and Cheryl Loverock have volunteered to coordinate this help.

Free Energy Advice & Grants

South Dartmoor Community energy

We’re pleased to announce that South Dartmoor Community Energy are offering our parish free and impartial energy advice  and  help  accessing  grants.Energy advice team

This is a not-for-profit organisation that provides advice over the phone or at a home visit funded by the LEAP scheme.

Advice offered on insulation, heating systems and controls, energy suppliers, switching tariffs, and grants.  This includes home visits by volunteers from SDCE.

The grant system is complicated and these volunteers can help you. If you are in receipt of benefits or have a household income of below £35k after mortgage/rent/utilities you are probably eligible for energy efficiency grants which could include the cost of new improved insulation.  Also, you could receive up to 10 energy efficient LED bulbs for free.

If you know a friend or neighbour who might qualify, and benefit from living in a warmer house, please tell them about this.

Call free on 0800 060 7567 or get in touch via their website

Sophie Phillips from SDCE will hopefully be coming along to a Staverton breakfast market soon.  We’ll let you know when.  You’ll be able to sign up for a home visit there.

Anthony Mangnall MP meeting

Simon Oldridge from the Climate Action Group met with local MP Anthony Mangnall yesterday to discuss Staverton Parish’s Net Zero emissions initiative including the Energy Audit for which Riverford are donating an organic gift box worth £50 (prize draw at the Breakfast Market)

Mr Mangnall was very interested in the project and extremely keen to support it.  He offered to come and speak at the Staverton & Landscove Climate Fair currently being planned for later this year.

Simon explained that more up-front grant support is needed as most people in the parish don’t have the financial resources to afford the outlay to upgrade their insulation, or replace their oil boilers with air source heat pumps.

Mr Mangnall was very supportive of the energy audit, and asked our Climate Action Group to come and meet with a panel of climate experts that he is setting up to explain the needs of our local community.
