Urgent Restoration of Landscove Church’s Grade II Lychgate

St Matthew’s Church in Landscove is a beautiful mid 19th Century church within our Dart Valley Mission Community. It was designed by John Loughborough Pearson, who later became the architect of Truro Cathedral, and it has a pretty Victorian broached spire, rather untypical of the Devon style. The attractive churchyard is approached through a delightful Grade II listed slate-roof, buttressed lychgate.

Unfortunately since thieves stole the lead from the roof of the lychgate some years ago, it has been ruthlessly blown and battered by the elements, resulting in it needing urgent attention. It is estimated this repair work may cost within the region of £10,000, a great deal of money for a building which has served this community for many centuries holding regular services, weddings, baptisms and funerals and being a welcome place of peace and quiet for visitors.

We are hoping repair work, once passed by planning, can start later this year but the church is not rich. We are therefore asking for donations.
